AccessPlus is a leading provider of telecommunications solutions, dedicated to delivering top-notch service and innovative technology to our customers. We are looking for a skilled Telecommunications Technician to join our team and help maintain and enhance our telecommunications infrastructure.
Job Summary: As a Telecommunications/WISP Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic, wireless, video, and networking equipment and systems.
This Role Involves
- Programming and installing Wi-Fi, PTMP microwave, and networking equipment
- Splicing and terminating fiber optic and CAT6 cabling
- Installing fiber optic cabling on telephone poles, through manhole and underground facilities, and inside of buildings
- Installing outdoor traffic monitoring video equipment
- The ideal candidate will have a technical background, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
Key Responsibilities
- Microwave Radio and Wireless installation.
- Configure PtP, PTMP, and Wi-Fi radio systems.
- Install wireless equipment at customer and backbone locations.
- Install necessary mounting hardware for wireless equipment including outdoor roof and wall mounts.
- Troubleshoot and maintain existing wireless networks and equipment.
Fiber Splicing and Termination
- Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cabling.
- Terminate fiber optic cabling using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Ensure splicing and termination work meets industry standards and specifications.
Cable Installation and Maintenance
- Install fiber optic cabling and associated equipment.
- Install and terminate CAT6 cabling and associated equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting on fiber optic networks.
- Replace or repair faulty fiber optic cabling and components as needed.
Equipment Installation and Configuration
- Install, configure, and test telecommunications equipment, including phones, routers, switches, network infrastructure, and traffic monitoring video equipment.
- Set up and configure network connections and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Ensure all installations meet company and industry standards.
Maintenance and Repair
- Perform routine maintenance on telecommunications systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and repair faults in equipment and wiring.
- Use optical test equipment to measure and analyze network performance, including OTDR’s, power meters, and light sources.
- Document test results, splicing records, and maintenance activities.
- Respond to service calls and provide technical support to resolve issues promptly. Diagnose errors or technical problems and work with support engineering to resolve issues onsite.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and service calls.
- Prepare and submit reports on system performance, issues, and resolutions.
Customer Interaction
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating clearly and professionally with clients.
- Offer technical advice and guidance to customers as needed.
- Provide feedback to management and account management team for potential upsell opportunities.
Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Comply with industry regulations and company policies regarding telecommunications standards.
- Operate company vehicle in a safe manner.
- Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in fiber optics preferred.
Experience
- Hands-on experience with various telecommunications, fiber optic, and networking equipment and systems.
- Experience with running CAT6 and fiberoptic cabling throughout commercial office buildings.
- Experience with Ubiquiti products a plus.
- Experience working on cell towers a plus.
- Experience working in central offices and data centers a plus.
Skills
- Some technical knowledge of telecommunications systems, including wireless, fiber optics, VoIP, data networks, and video installation.
- Clean driving record.
- Some experience with building design and in building cable installation.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to work flexible shifts and to adapt to changing work schedules, including participating in on call rotation.
- Familiarity with mobile tools and applications, especially SalesForce.com and Microsoft Office
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Capability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and at heights.
- Capability to work in various weather conditions.
